People have used olive oil for haircare for thousands of years, claiming it adds shine, body, softness, and resilience. But some research on the effect of olive oil shows that it can have a major moisturizing effect.
Olive oil could add softness and strengthen hair by penetrating the hair shaft and preserving moisture. Being rich in nutrients and with an oily consistency, olive oil is an ideal natural balm for hair. If you have a dry scalp or are looking to treat dandruff, you can also use extra virgin olive oil for hair roots and scalp but use the smallest amount of oil as your scalp needs to breathe and too much oil can cause blockage resulting in hair loss.
For normal hair, we recommend this treatment once a month. For dryer/more brittle hair, try once a week for maximum results:
Take a small amount of olive oil and massage deeply into your hair and down to the ends for a few minutes. For the most effective conditioning, wrap your hair in a shower cap and let the oil soak in for 15 minutes or more. Rinse the oil out of the hair with warm water. Shampoo the hair, repeating this step if the hair feels greasy. Dry, coarse hair will probably benefit more than thinner, dry hair. People with oily, fine hair may find that olive oil makes their hair feel greasy and weighty.
