Pantone Colour of the Year - the experts weigh in!

Share

Every year design and trend forecasters eagerly await the colour of the year that is announced by Pantone. This year, they have broken tradition once again and have revealed two ‘colours of the year’, instead of one. The colours are PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.

See below for what stylists think of these two trend colours:

How often have we had clients coming into the salon saying they want to cover their greys but don’t want it to look yellow? Well now we can officially say yellow is a good thing! The combination of yellow and grey can be dynamic but beautiful. A flash of vibrant yellow peeking through a grey fringe will look dramatic and daring but add some fun to an everyday style. We can’t wait to start playing with this colour palette. - Karen Perry, Room 97 Creative, Leeds - North Western Hairdresser of the Year

How refreshing to see such vibrant, exciting colours, it is a breath of fresh air and is a colour palette we can really have fun with in-salon. More and more clients are embracing their natural grey and it is our job to make that look expensive and well cared for - and with (this) Pantone Colour, Ultimate Gray as inspiration, we can certainly do that! And while we spend more of our days trying to get rid of yellowy tones, maybe it is time we played with bright fashion shades of vibrant, sunshine yellow. We are going to have fun with the Pantone Colour of the Year and can’t wait to start playing with it! - Martin Crean, MODE Hair, Chipping Campden - Artistic Team of the Year

Yellow has been in all the shops recently, it is a real fashion colour and one that as hairdressers we can embrace too. - Marlon Hawkins, Brooks & Brooks, London

When Pantone reveal their Colour of the Year it always gives us an opportunity to sit down and talk colour with the team. Yellow and grey is a great combination and there are lots of ways we can use these colours with our younger clients. A splash of vibrant yellow will brighten up blondes, while Ultimate Gray will be the perfect tonic for our natural clients. - David Corbett, David Corbett Hairdressing, Bothwell, Glasgow
